The following section provides step-by-step instructions on how to import a drainage model from 12d into XPSWMM/XPStorm.

1. Prepare your drainage model in 12d.
2. In the drainage editor, select the **Import/Export** dialog box. Choose XPSWMM from the menu for I/O format, which will create an output file with the extension .xpx.
3. 12d have recently changed their file formats and so this is written in UNICODE which, at present, cannot be read by an **xp** software. Open the file in a text editor and convert it from UNICODE to ANSI.

4. In XPSWMM or XPStorm, select **Create from Template**, use the attached template which contains a couple of updates and will replace the Australian Master in 2014 SP1. Autodesk Water Support is also preparing a local rainfall template file based on the AR&R 1987 patterns to add to your library, which will be included in the upcoming service pack. This can be imported using the principles from the following steps upon receipt.
5. From the **File** menu, select **Import/Export Data** **> Import XPX/EPA Data**, locate the xpxfile from 12d and load it in. This will bring across the locations of your pits, pipes, and some catchment data.
6. Go to the **File** menu again to Import the xpxfile called *QUDM-inlet capacity.xpx*, saved in [Model Templates](https://help-innovyze.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/xps/pages/19662455/Resource+Downloads#ResourceDownloads-ModelTemplates). This file contains details for field inlets in sag conditions, with a blockage factor of 50% already applied. This file is prepared based on the characteristics of the Institute of Public Works Engineers Queensland standard drawings. If you have other inlet rating curves or standard inlet drawings that you wish to include in your model, we can assist in preparing the template files for you.
7. On the right hand side of the **Plan** view, select the **Fit to Window** icon > Macro (inline-media-image)

.
8. You need to make a few changes/additions if you wish to create a 1D or 1D/2D model. XPTABLES will be of significant help in doing this.
9. Hydrology:
 1. Check the Slope (if it is in % format, in the **Configuration** menu, select **Configuration Parameters** and add the parameter **CATSLOPE=%**).
 2. Split the catchment area into pervious and impervious to create two subcatchments. You can do this in XPTABLES or use Microsoft Excel to copy and paste the data back in.
 3. Select the routing method as **Laurenson**.
 4. Create or modify an Infiltration template for pervious and impervious areas in the **Global Database**. Select the correct **Infiltration** for each catchment. For your information, **xp** has added some additional infiltration options in the Australian Master template attached.
 5. Select the rainfall events you wish to run in the **Global Database**.
10. Hydraulics:
 1. Set the ponding option for each node (depending on 1D or 1D/2D model).
 2. If 1D/1D (Dual Drainage), set up inlets at the nodes and pit losses for the pipes.
 3. If 1D/2D, set up Inflow Capacity at each node.
 4. Build the xp2D model as discussed in the [Getting Started Manual tutorials](http://help.innovyze.com/display/xps/Getting+Started+Training+Material).
11. Solve the model and review.
