For a network setup (floating license), the dongle is plugged into a centralized server, and XPSWMM/XPStorm can be installed on multiple laptop/desktop computers, sharing the same license. For more information, please refer to License Types.

The installation has two steps using the same installer:

Network Server installations can be hosted by a virtual machine that can access the USB License Dongle. For virtual machine installations, there are a few additional steps outlined on Virtual Machine Network Installation.

If you currently use standalone installation, refer to Converting Existing Standalone Clients to Floating Client.

The following procedure describes the steps on how to perform network installation for XPSWMM. For XPSTORM, it follows a very similar process.

Before proceeding with the installation, check the Installation Guide page to ensure that you have all the necessary prerequisites. Also, check the System Requirements to see if your computer meets the specifications.

Network Server Installation

  1. In the main screen, click Next to start the XPSWMM installation process.


  2. Review the License Agreement and select the check box to accept the terms and activate the Next button. Click Next.


  3.  the Setup Type screen, select the Network Server (Network driver installation only) option. Click Next.


  4. Browse to the folder where the program will be installed. Click Next


  5. Click Install to continue with the installation.


  6. When the installation is completed, click Finish.


  7. To verify the installation, go to http://localhost:6002 and you should see the following. For more information, please refer to this KB article.

Network Client Installation

Once the network server is installed successfully, you can install the client on the user’s computer. You will need the IP or network name of the server and the *.xcf file before proceeding.

  1. Select the Network Client (Network dongle required) option. Click Next.


  2. The shortcuts to the desktop and the start menu will be added by default. You can customize them by clearing the options. Click Next.


  3. Browse to the folder where the program will be installed. Click Next.


  4. Browse to the location of your configuration file, xpswmm.xcf. It is found on the USB or DVD when you purchased XPSWMM or attached to an email if you purchased an upgrade. Click Next.


  5. Type the IP address of the server where the dongle is plugged in. Click Next.


  6. Click Install to complete the installation.


  7. When the installation is completed, click Finish.


  8. Start XPSWMM by clicking the icon on the desktop. If you run into issues, refer to Troubleshooting Common Installation Errors for more information.
